Location: Royal Albert Dock, London E16

Project Type: Cladding remediation

Sector: Residential

Expertise

This extensive project involved replacing non-compliant and combustible cladding and insulation materials across seven residential blocks. A critical element of this case involved overcoming regulatory hurdles; initially, several cladding types were deemed ineligible for funding from the Building Safety Fund (BSF). However, through persistence and strategic appeals by the project team, funding eligibility was secured for all required cladding types, thus facilitating the project’s progression.

The project also presented logistical challenges due to the site’s unique location. Three of the blocks extend over the water, which necessitated an innovative approach to safely install scaffolding. To address this the project team devised a solution involving a temporary dam, which allowed for the water level around the buildings to be lowered. This enabled scaffolding installation to proceed safely and effectively, illustrating the team’s expertise and adaptability in managing complex urban infrastructure challenges.
